Via Costeira - Natal

Via Costeira is an important waterfront avenue that covers from the neighborhood of Areia Preta to Ponta Negra, along an extension of approximately 10 kilometers in the city of Natal, state of Rio Grande do Norte. It was projected and built in the 1980s with the aim of increasing tourism development and linking the central part of Natal with its southern beaches. It became a big tourist corridor, having been developed in a thin strip of land separating the sand dunes and the Atlantic Ocean. The Via Costeira is lined with luxury hotels and resorts, many of which directly face the beaches or have ocean views. These establishments are targeted at both domestic and international tourists. The avenue fronts onto a prize-winning range of beaches with continuous golden dunes and peaceful waters. Though not always good for swimmers because of strong currents, in some places there are quite popular spots for beach service. Via Costeira presents a combination of upscale tourism, nature, and the easy way to get access to urban and coastal sights; therefore, it constitutes an integral part of Natal’s infrastructure.
